A detailed reading comprehension all about the recent ‘Momo Challenge’ (no pictures of Momo included) and the dangers of online challenges that this hoax has highlighted. This reading comprehension includes three sets of differentiated challenge questions, so with reading, discussion and answering the questions this will keep a group busy for 25-30 mins. It is perfect for Form Time or an activity in any English or PSHE lesson. The article, written by journalist R E Hunt (who has kindly let us share her work) investigates the irony behind the Momo Challenge - where the fear and harm from the sight of Momo were actually spread by the news media trying to warn parents about it. The article contains a serious message - Momo was a hoax - but a hoax based upon reality. It reiterates how young people can stay safe and use their critical thinking skills not to fall victim to future Momos. For the Gatsby Careers Guidelines - A careers assembly lasting around 20-25 minutes (including short clip) with a focus on why Careers Education is so important and how students can make the most of all the opportunities presented to them whilst in school. The assembly examines the cases of two fictional ex-students, Alisha and Jack, who didn’t take Careers Education seriously and ended up paying the price for it by adding years on to their lives in the time it took them to eventually find their ideal jobs. Easy to use reading comprehension pack with three sections of differentiated questions, created for upcoming Fairtrade Fortnight. It can be used in form time as part of literacy focus, or in English lessons for lower KS3 or upper KS2. Both PDF and editable word file included.

An assembly all about the impact that random acts of kindness can have. It explores why we need to be kind to each other, the effect small acts can have on our family, friends and the wider communities and in turn our own emotional wellbeing. The assembly lasts around 20 minutes, including a short clip. As part of the assembly you will need to place three Post-Its randomly where the children will sit. You will be calling those three students who sit on a Post-It up to give them a small gift (perhaps a tube of Smarties).You will then ask them questions about how they feel - this is to show the impact of an act of kindness when people aren’t expecting it (which scientists have shown to have more impact than if they are). The assembly is very easy to follow (and has additional teacher notes in the slide-notes of the PowerPoint). It is also editable. A 40 minute employability skills lesson which was created for LIKE2BE - an online networking platform which helps to raise student aspirations by connecting educators & students with employers and professionals for real world career guidance. This is the ninth of 12 sessions which will cover all aspects of employability skills, as well as serve as a step-by-step guide for schools and students that are signed up to the LikeToBe website. This ninth session is all about the importance of literacy and numeracy skills, how we can acquire them and how we can demonstrate our proficiency in these to employers. All of these resources are three way differentiated, engaging and challenging. They are best suited to KS4 or KS5 students and each lasts 40 minutes. For the Gatsby Benchmark Careers Guidelines. 1 hour fully resourced careers lesson focusing on how the extra curricular activities students have completed and their personal qualities can be used to create fantastic personal statements. Equally, this could be used to help with university applications. The lesson sees students complete a personality and skills audit, team group activities, individual tasks, clip tasks, create example paragraphs for a personal statement and and is perfect for a PSHE / Citizenship careers unit. This resource pack includes a one hour long PowerPoint with accompanying worksheets, well differentiated activities, literacy focus tasks, clip tasks with three-way differentiated questions and information sheets. The lesson has been left editable and is filled with engaging, well differentiated and fun activities. It is useful for PSHE, Citizenship or Tutor Time. As with all our lessons, you don’t need any prior knowledge as all the information is included - you can just pick up and teach it.
